And the winner is…

WATERLOO – The Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation along with the Cambridge & North Dumfries Community Foundation held another “transportation test” this morning that will be featured in the upcoming version of Waterloo Region’s Vital Signs – a snapshot on quality of life in the Region.

Starting at 8 a.m. this morning, Waterloo Mayor Brenda Halloran, Kitchener Mayor Carl Zehr, and 570 News announcer Mike Farwell began their race from Point A (Waterloo Town Square) to Point B (Cambridge City Hall).

Mike Farwell was on a bike, Mayor Halloran rode the iXpress bus and Mayor Zehr drove his hybrid vehicle.

The trick was to manage the heavy flow of traffic during rush hour and arrive at the end of the race to meet up with Cambridge Mayor Doug Craig.

The results are in and Mayor Zehr won – arriving at 8:33 a.m. while Mayor Halloran arrived next just before 9:00.  570’s Mike Farwell cruised onto the scene in third spot at roughly 9:15.  Not a drastic difference when you consider the dramatic difference in modes of transport – and the distance covered by each.

Waterloo Region’s Vital Signs is an annual community check up through which The Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation and the Cambridge & North Dumfries Community Foundation to measure the vitality of our Region, identify significant trends and invite community supporters to assign grades in 11 areas critical to Waterloo Region’s quality of life – transforming local facts and figures into research you can read anywhere, anytime.
