Drop the salt, please

A panel of experts has offered a list of recommendations on how Canadians can shake some of the salt out of their diets.

The group, chaired by Health Canada, released a report today that says cutting back on salt can save thousands of lives by reducing heart attack and stroke.

The panel is encouraging manufacturers to lower the sodium content of their products and wants Canadians to reduce their average daily sodium intake by about a third by 2016.

For adults, 15-hundred milligrams of sodium per day is considered adequate.
