National Day of Mourning

It’s a day we remember those who lost their lives or were injured on the job.

Today is the National Day of Mourning.

It was started in 1984 by the Canadian Labour Congress.

The Waterloo Region Labour Council held a ceremony this morning in Kitchener’s Victoria Park.

Council President, Len Carter tells 570 News we have exceptional legislation, we just need better enforcement.

Carter says given the economic times, he thinks employees on the floor are afraid to ask questions.

The Canadian Labour Congress says 1036 people lost their lives because of their work in 2008, the most recent year for stats.
