Canadian soldier killed in Afghanistan

Another Canadian soldier has been killed in Afghanistan.

44 year old Sgt. John Faught died Saturday after stepping on an improvised explosive device near the town of Nakhoney in the Panjwaii district of Kandahar province.

He was a member of the 1st Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry based in Edmonton.

Canadian Brig.-Gen. Daniel Menard said Faught was “very much a father figure” to his much younger section members.

Faught becomes the first Canadian soldier killed this year in Afghanistan and the 139th of the Afghan mission.

His death comes two weeks after four Canadian soldiers and a journalist were killed when their armoured vehicle hit a roadside bomb.
